To the indefinite, uncertain mind of the American radical the most contradictory ideas and methods are possible. The result is a sad chaos in the radical movement, a sort of intellectual hash, which has neither taste nor character. -- Emma Goldman

Because the soul has such deep roots in personal and social life and its values run so contrary to modern concerns, caring for the soul may well turn out to be a radical act, a challenge to accepted norms. -- Thomas More

It is evident, therefore, that the dependence of the individual upon society is a fact of nature which cannot be abolished—just as in the case of ants and bees. -- Albert Einstein

Blogging the DRC

They're selling postcards of the hanging
They're painting the passports brown
The beauty parlor is filled with sailors
The circus is in town
Here comes the blind commissioner
They've got him in a trance
One hand is tied to the tight-rope walker
The other is in his pants
And the riot squad they're restless
They need somewhere to go
As Lady and I look out tonight
From Desolation Row

-Dylan/WB, 1965
The DRC? Yeah - it can stand for a buncha things:

Denver's Ridiculous Carnival . . .

Democratic Republican Conclave . . .

Dickheads Reconstructing Camelot . . .

Democrats' Revanchist Crapola . . .

Dismal Rerun Comedy . . .

. . . all leading to the need for a Desparate Reality Check.

So was it Teddy Kennedy's last hurrah that was the highlight? Michelle's rant? John-Boy Edwards' conspicuous and shameful absence?

None of the above (which is also for whom I'm {not} casting a ballot). These are the bIG StORieS from the first day of the Delusional Nutjob Convention . . .

Uh, the cops said "insufficient evidence" and "no danger". Three armed speed freaks driving around near Denver talking about killing Nobama. And WTC7 fell down 'cuz of, er, what, now?

Next . . .

Wow! Shit! Look, mom! I'm a anercrist rebelooshenarie! Cuil!!!

But then shit really got nasty when HillBillary heard that Nobama called her "just another ho in a pantsuit":

I was saddened whilst listening to Dennis Kucinich's speech last night at the Democratic Party's convention. He spoke eloquently about the issues, problems that American citizens face, and he spoke of solutions to them. Unfortunately, he had to declare, at the end, and falsely that the Democrats would realise those solutions, deliver them to the citizens of this nation. He had to know he was lying.

Did you hear his speech? What did you think of it? What do you think of Kucinich?

No, I didn't hear Dennis' speech, but your description is not surprising.

Dennis has been a good Congressman. He'd like to keep his job. He is pragmatic enough to know that he needs the support of his party to do that. He can't win if he goes independent, since his district is one of the last bastions of old-school working class liberalism in the country. The local elephants would overrun his position if he divorced his machine. So he's struck a deal with the devil - and I'm glad.

You doubtless have read the latest McKinney piece at BAR. I think the Greens have finally redeemed themselves by nominating her. However, even if she gets on the ballot in my state, I won't vote for her, or anybody for that matter. Here's why:

First, presidential elections are become beauty pageants. The contestants are vying for the title of "Ms/Mr Trilateral Commission". But they are not performing for us; they sing and dance for their masters. The outcome is already in the can, no matter who "wins", because the policies will be the same. Nobama is only indoctrinating us to that reality.

Second, voting for presidents, senators, and congresspeople is an act of complicity. Too many folks say, "We have to do it, because it's the least we can do". They're right, but it's also all that they do.

Emma Goldman and Charlie Marx were right with, "Religion is the opium of the people". Voting, unfortunately, is its crack.

Be at peace.

Hi! It's redcatbiker, again.

Did you ever hear George Carlin's bit on why he doesn't vote? If no, you can find it on youtube.

Hi!

Er, uh, come here much?

Can I buy you a drink?

I haven't seen that Carlin shtick for awhile, but it's a hoot. If I can find it, I'll post it in your honor.

Uh, do you live alone?
