I appreciate your comments here. You make some excellent points.

There used to be a lively political dialogue in Washington between traditional conservatives (who tended to resist change for a number of well-articulated reasons) and traditional liberals (who advocated change which supported increased opportunities for the general population). People like conservative Everett Dirkson and the liberal Tip O'Neill come to mind.

Although this dialogue sometimes produced some rancor, it also made for clarity of ideas and slow, cautious change.

That balance is gone. Washington produces a monolgue now. As a result, we are hurtling blindly into a black hole from which, I fear, there will be no return.

I agree with most of this piece. It's well written and there are some great quotes. Change is something our leaders enforce on us for a variety of reasons: it requires (and therefore 'justifies')permanent armies of bureacrats to implement; it provides unnecessary business contracts with the corporations who fund election campaigns, repaying them with taxpayers' money; it requires constantly changing ways of measurement and evaluation therefore making it impossible to compare how governments are performing.
The only time change is acceptable is when the individual chooses it for themselves - such as choosing the conveniences of twenty first century life above living in a cave. All imposed change is wrong.
